Gastroenterology is the branch of medical science which focuses on the diseases as well as disorders of digestive system. Gastroenterologists treat diseases affecting the gastrointestinal tract which includes the organs from mouth to anus, which are placed inside the alimentary canal.

This is a surgery which is recommended for the treatment of morbid obesity, type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea, hypertension and other such diseases. In this surgery, the stomach of the person is partitioned into two pouches: a small upper pouch and a larger remnant lower pouch, and then the small intestine is rearranged and connected to the pouches.
