Gastroenterology is the branch of medical science which focuses on the diseases as well as disorders of digestive system. Gastroenterologists treat diseases affecting the gastrointestinal tract which includes the organs from mouth to anus, which are placed inside the alimentary canal.

This is the surgery which is done to treat the diseases of digestive system including stomach, small and large intestine, esophagus, rectum, gallbladder, pancreas and liver. Cancers of digestive system, appendicitis, diverticular disease, gallstone or gallbladder removal, GERD, Inflammatory bowel disease, hernia, weight loss surgery, rectal prolapse are a few of the common gastrointestinal surgeries.

Minimal Access Surgery

In minimal access surgery, the surgeon makes tiny incisions in your body. Through the incisions, the surgeon inserts one telescope on which a tiny camera is attached. This video camera allows your surgeon to view your surgery on the monitor. One example of minimal access surgery is the laparoscopy procedure which is usually performed for the removal of gallstones.

Hepatology

Hepatology is the branch of medicine which deals with the study of liver, gallbladder, biliary tree, pancreas, as well as the management of disorders. Hepatologists treat diseases and complications which are related to viral hepatitis like hepatitis B and Hepatitis C virus and alcohol related diseases. More than 80% of liver cancer is attributed to the Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C virus according to studies.

Gastric Bypass Surgery

This is a surgery which is recommended for the treatment of morbid obesity, type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea, hypertension and other such diseases. In this surgery, the stomach of the person is partitioned into two pouches: a small upper pouch and a larger remnant lower pouch, and then the small intestine is rearranged and connected to the pouches.
